Officer Chelsea Campellone

Why is she relevant?

On November 22, 2021, Officer Campellone shot and killed Anthony Harden at the foot of his bed in his bedroom. The shooting occurred only 13 days after the Massachusetts State Police interviewed her. about her own domestic violence incident.

Where is she now?

The FRPD still employs her, but she has been transferred to the FRPD’s Firearms Licensing Division.   The FRPD has delegated her the authority to investigate members of the community when they apply for a license to carry a firearm.

Why is he relevant?

Where is he now?

He remains an officer with the FRPD.

Officer Michael Pavao

Why is he relevant?

Officer Pavao drove Officer Sullivan to the hospital after the shooting, despite Officer Sullivan having no injuries. At some point later that evening, he allegedly called Sergeant Kevin Bshara and claimed that, after the shooting, he found a knife and placed it behind Anthony’s television for safety reasons. He did not tell anyone this story at the scene and no one saw Officer Pavao pick up the knife.

Where is he now?

He resigned from the Fall River Police Department after being arrested for domestic violence, which he hid from Fall River Chief of Police, Paul Gauvin. Regarding Officer Pavao, Chief Gauvin wrote, “If this employee were still here, we may be looking truthfulness [and] termination proceedings for his intent to attempt to conceal this arrest from the Department. The lie in this matter makes him unfit to serve in any organization.” Officer Pavao is currently being investigated by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission.

Officer Erick J. Bettencourt

Why is he relevant?

He is Officer Sullivan’s brother-in-law. According to Officer Sullivan, when he got into Officer Pavao’s vehicle after the shooting, Officer Sullivan sent Officer Bettencourt a text message to meet him at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Officer Pavao corroborated this and stated that all Officer Sullivan wanted was to have Officer Bettencourt meet him at Charlton Memorial Hospital. During this “meeting” at Charlton Memorial Hospital, the story about Officer Pavao locating and placing the knife behind the television developed.

Where is he now?

He was promoted and is now a Sergeant with the FRPD.
